Authentic Self Modality

This Above All:

To Thine Own Self Be True

William Shakespeare wrote these immortal words in Act 1 Scene 3 of his famous play Hamlet written in 1603. It is astounding though to realize that 2,237 years earlier Aristotle is quoted as saying "the unexamined life is not worth living" when confronting the politicians of his day.  These statements embody the very existential ideals surrounding Authentic Self Modality.  The theory states that we must become so honest with ourselves, who we are, and what we do (both bad and good in the world), that we irrevocably become certain about who we really are, and it becomes our joyful duty to honor that authentic-self with all our heart, might, mind and soul.  Authentic Self Modality focuses on EQ, which refers to your Emotional Quotient, or your Emotional intelligence, and is the basis for personal exploration.

The principles of Authentic Self Modality are:

  • Honesty
  • Integrity
  • Letting go of things you can't control
  • Finding one's existential purpose in life

Find Your Path Using Your Own EQ

Honesty

How can we know where to go if we don't even know how to read the map.  We are complex in some ways, and in other ways we are as simple as can be. We know what is right for us when we get still and let go of what the world, our friends, and our families think we should do. We can embrace who we are born to be. In this, we acknowledge the four intelligences, the cognitive (IQ), the emotional (EQ) the spiritual (SQ), and the physical (PQ).  Improvement in all these areas are important, and they teach us where we are lacking and what we need to do.

Integrity

Once we know who we are we are naturally compelled to want to act in our authentic-self's best interest. ASM teaches us to see ourselves as stewards of the authentic-self.  We become a parent to ourselves.  We encourage, teach, love, and inspire ourselves to get all the things we want in life that are good for us.  Having integrity means acting true to our authentic-self and keeping our word to the most important person in the world. You.

Letting Go

Letting go of things we can't control sounds so simple, but the complexities of what it represents, "boundaries" has been the sole topic of many books hundreds of pages long.  In ASM we learn to embrace that our experiences occur inside our brains.  Nothing is outside of us except the input we receive from others, and even that we have some control over.  When we embrace that we cannot control the world outside us, it leaves us to control the inside of ourselves like our lives depend on it.  Which, of course, they do.
